With the popularity of the Marvel Zombie comics, many customizers are trying their skills at zombie figures.  For the most part, what I'm seeing is a worked over version of a pre-existing character.  You take a Marvel Legends Wolverine, curve him up, paint some blood and you're done.

I wanted to go about my custom zombie a bit different.  I didn't want use a Wolverine figure as a base.  For my version, I chose the Zombie Spawn figure.  After removing Spawn's cape and armor, I resculpted his body to reflect Wolverine's classic brown outfit.  I used cut strips of plastic styrine for his claws and re-shaped styrine sheets for his mask.  Painting this figures was the fun part.  I wanted to make sure that it looked like his outfit was becoming one with his decaying body. I made sure that his opened wounds meshed well with his outfit.  To do this, I painted his outfit in the classic colors, I covered the figure with a light wash of brown paint, when black paint.  After that dried, I dried brushed the figure with a lighter yellow and tan.  This allowed the low lying areas to be more shadowed and the higher areas to stand out.  I then painted his scars and wounds with a dark red and a wash of dark brown.  For the "fresh" blood on his claws and base, I used transparent red paint.
