Putty

This is what you have been waiting for. I can't tell you how many emails I've gotten asking what kind to clay I used! Drove me crazy! And I NEVER gave away my secret, until NOW!

MAGIC SCULP RESIN PUTTY is a two part resin putty that air dries rock hard. You mix equal portions of both tubs until there are no streaks of either color. Knead well with a drip of water. You have plenty of working time with this stuff, so there is no need to rush, unlike some of the other putties I have pictured on this page. It comes in two 2.5 lbs buckets, so you will have more then enough putty to use for "testing". What's great about this resin putty, is how smooth of a finish you can get. It's like porcelain only a lot tougher! While using the putty make sure to have a small cup of water near by. You'll need to keep the putty and your figures moist so you can get a nice smooth surface to your figure. Dries thoroughly in about 24 hours.

MILLIPUT is a two part epoxy putty that air dries rock hard. You mix equal portions of both tubes until there are no streaks of either color. Knead well with a drip of water. Now you only have a short amount of time before the putty becomes "unworkable", about ten minutes max. It will thoroughly dry in 12 hours. Then it becomes like steel! That's when you can carve it with your file (see files). I get most my detail with my brass tools (see sculpting tools). when the putty still wet. Make sure you only mix the amount of Milliput you are going to need for the part of the figure you are working on. Milliput is NOT cheap and you don't want to waste it. Be sure to have your figure planned out before hand and know what you are mixing the putty for. You don't have time to mess around. While using the putty make sure to have a small cup of water near by. You'll need to keep the putty moist so you can get a nice smooth surface to your figure. I use it for all my custom figures, their accessories, resculpting mouths, eyes, hair, clothes, everything!

Another great putty to use is Oatey Epoxy Putty. This putty comes as one tube. White with a gray center. You brake off what you need and knead the two colors until you get a solid gray. Now this putty is for those of you out there that can't wait for Milliput to dry. This stuff dries LIGHTNING FAST! BEWARE! It's about half the price of the Milliput and you get much more. But you'll waste allot trying to get the drying time just right. You have very little time to work with this putty before it becomes "unworkable", about TWO to THREE minutes. It will then turn rock hard in about six. It doesn't give you much time to sculpt detail into it, so plan ahead. I use this putty on large areas or gaps that need to be filled. It doesn't always dry smooth, because of how fast it "kicks", but can be sanded to a smooth finish.

Make sure to wash your hands and tools immediately after you are done. Remember this stuff dries very fast and rock hard.
