Homer as the Thing was made from the Homer as the Hulk figure from the KB Bongo set. This character required no carving, just sculpting. And allot of it! I used my putty, rolled into small balls, and placed all over Homer. Sound easy?? Well it wasn't! It's very important that the right size stone when in the right place, otherwise the figure would be unbalanced. I tried to allow room for the arms and head to move but found that it left too much space, and looked liked I just forgot to add stones in those areas. So I when for appearance over "playability". After all the stones where in place, I painted the whole figure black. Yes, black. Painting it black first, allowed me to get the paint into the areas between the stones, giving the figure a more defined look when I added the orange. I the used a light wash of red then highlight each stone with a little white. This gave the overall figure a nice bold comic book look. Those of you that would like to try a character that needs no Dremeling or detailed sculpting, this is a good figure to try.
